Pif the Dog; Hercule the Tomcat; Aunt Agathe and Uncle Tonton; Doudou and Rosalie ‒ these characters need explaining neither in France, where they were created many years ago by the Spanish-born French comics artist José Cabrero Arnal, nor in Latvia, where they are familiar to several generations of comic book readers and puppet theatre spectators.
